Iliana Malihin is Greece's young, 30 something female winemaking phenom that has taken the wine world by storm. A native of Athens, with deep family ties to Rethymon, Crete, she returned to Crete after completing her oenology studies in Athens and immediatly set forth on her plan to reclimate the old-vine, ungrafted vineyards of the variety Vidiano, whose heartland lies in the southern, mountainous vineyards of Rethymno, Crete, not far from the Lybian Sea. Today, she sources fruit from her own vineyards, as well as no fewer than 40 both yound and old farmers, who have all converted to organic production at her behest, and highlights both Vidiano annd other Cretan indigenous varieties.
